Ultimate Guide to Cebu’s Mountain Gardens and Attractions

    Cebu Mountain Tour

Cebu, Philippines truly offers a variety of experiences, from its vibrant city to beautiful beaches and serene mountains. If you love plants like me, stunning views, or seek relaxation, the Cebu Mountain Tour is a great activity to add to your itinerary. Here’s how you can spend the whole day in the mountains of Cebu City.

Your driver or tour guide may have their own favorite route based on their experiences or what’s happening on the roads at the moment. This is the route and stops we usually take while on this tour.

    Getting There

For your own safety, I recommend you book a tour or hire an experienced driver to take you on this excursion if you are not familiar with the driving in the Philippines. There are many, very small winding roads, sometimes with no shoulder.

    Ted Cebu-Bohol Tours & Airport-Hotel Transfers
Ted and his drivers made planning and communication a great experience for us. Ted has vehicles of many sizes to accommodate every type of group. Ted also offers other tours throughout Cebu and Bohol, I recommend you check them out if you are looking for an easy transportation option while visiting Cebu.

    Entry Fees

Every stop will require about $2-4 per person for an entry fee to help maintain the gardens. You can also order food or buy snacks for an extra cost while you’re there if you wish.

    1. Bulak Ni Alejandra

A vibrant flower garden tucked in the Cebu mountains, offering a peaceful escape with stunning views. The garden is filled with colorful blooms, creating a picturesque spot for nature lovers and photography enthusiasts alike.

    Pro Tip:
I enjoy arriving earlier in the morning when the air is cool — it’s the perfect time to sip on a hot coffee and savor some sweet bread while soaking in the scenery.

Friendly flower attendants are available to guide you through the garden and capture beautiful photos, so be sure to tip them for their excellent service.

    2. Sirao Garden

A vibrant pictorial garden often referred to as the “Little Amsterdam” of Cebu. With its colorful celosia flowers and whimsical installations, it’s a go-to spot for capturing fun, eye-catching photos. From oversized windmills and heart-shaped frames to bright floral backdrops, every corner is designed for that perfect Instagram shot.

    Pro Tip:
Many people don’t know, there are two Sirao gardens — the original Sirao Garden and the newer, more popular one. The original Sirao is located slightly further up the mountain from the newer, more popular one. It’s less known and tends to be quieter and less crowded. A great choice if you prefer a more peaceful experience. On the other hand, the newer garden is well-known on social media for its curated photo spots and vibrant atmosphere. Personally, I enjoy both and I don’t think one is better than the other.

After exploring the gardens, be sure to check out the small market across the street, where you can sample local fruits and enjoy some local street food.

    3. Little Kyoto

A charming stop inspired by Japan’s picturesque city of Kyoto. The garden is filled with lush greenery, traditional Japanese-inspired structures, and tranquil pathways, making it a lovely spot to relax and take in the scenery.

We like to stop here for a lunch break. Their menu includes Japanese style options such as ramen, rice bowls and sushi.

    Pro Tip:
While making your way down the mountain on this tour, if you’re in need of a bathroom break, I would wait to go here if possible. The bathrooms here are clean, private, and well-maintained, especially compared to other stops prior to this one. However, note that the bathrooms are located all the way at the top of the garden, so you’ll need to walk up quite a few stairs to get there.

A quick tip for traveling in the Philippines: always bring your own toilet paper, as not all bathrooms provide it.

    4. Soul Sierra

A hidden gem that feels like a private garden retreat, complete with winding paths and stairs to explore the plentiful flowers and beautiful views. The lush greenery and tranquil setting make it a peaceful spot to unwind and take in the beauty of nature.

The entry fee to the property can be used as a food and drink minimum at their restaurant, so you can enjoy a delicious meal or drink here while you relax. Standing out to the other stops, they offer refreshing light and healthy vegan options that are perfect for recharging in the middle of the long day in the sun.

As you explore, you’ll notice a house on the property, which is closed to the public unless you have a reservation for a rental or attending one of their yoga classes or wellness events. This makes Soul Sierra a unique place to visit for those seeking a serene escape with great food and a chance to connect with nature.

    5. Temple of Leah

Unlike the flower-filled gardens, this unique site is a temple dedicated to love and family, built by a passionate husband, in honor of his late wife, Leah. The temple itself is grand, with classical Roman-inspired architecture, towering columns, and intricate sculptures that reflect the devotion behind its creation. Set on a hillside, the temple has views of Cebu City and the distant ocean. It’s a calm and inspiring place, ideal for reflection and enjoying the stunning scenery.

Inside the temple, you’ll find family momentos displayed, adding a personal touch to the place, and offering visitors a glimpse into the deep bond the family shared. And often, live music will be playing in the foyer of the temple, creating a serene and soulful experience as you wander through the temple.

    7. La Vie in the Sky

My perfect way to end a day of exploring Cebu’s mountains. This French-inspired restaurant offers a cozy, upscale atmosphere with stunning views of the city below, making it a great spot to unwind and enjoy a meal.

My go to order is a wood fire pizza, a full bottle of wine, and a scoop of gelato. — The perfect combo to soaking in the gorgeous surroundings after a day of sight seeing.

If you’re planning something special, La Vie in the Sky also has a private party room upstairs, ideal for intimate gatherings or parties.

    6. Tops

If you’re up for more exploring after dinner at La Vie in the Sky. Conveniently located right next door, Tops offers a breathtaking 360-degree view of Cebu City, making it a must-see stop on your mountain tour.

Recently reopened in 2024, Tops has been revamped with a fresh, modern feel. You’ll find a variety of restaurants and shops, with more exciting additions still on the way. It’s a vibrant spot to stroll around, grab a drink, or shop for souvenirs.

    Pro Tip:
I personally have yet to experience Tops at night but one of the best times to visit Tops is after dark when the city lights create a magical view. With its 24-hour schedule, you can enjoy the sights long into the night. Tops Cebu is a memorable stop on your mountain adventure.

    More Pro Tips

Check the Weather: The mountains can be unpredictable, with sudden rain showers or fog. It’s best to check the forecast before heading out. Clear days offer the best views and it’s important to have a driver that is familiar with the routes.

Start Early: Mornings are cooler and less crowded, making it a great time to explore gardens. Plus, you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy every stop at a relaxed pace.

Bring Essentials: Carry sunscreen, a hat, and water to stay comfortable, especially if you’re visiting multiple outdoor spots. Don’t forget a light jacket — the mountain air can get chilly in the late afternoon or evening. I also like to bring an umbrella to use for rain or as a parasol for the sun.

Toilet Paper Alert: Many public restrooms in the Philippines don’t provide toilet paper, so it’s always good to bring your own. Keep some in your bag just in case!

Cash is King: While some places accept cards, the smaller vendors, markets, and all entry points require cash, so it’s please carry Philippine Pesos.

    Final Thoughts

A Cebu Mountain Tour is the perfect way to experience the best of what this beautiful region has to offer. From vibrant flower gardens and scenic ocean views to charming restaurants and cultural landmarks, every stop adds something special to your day.

Take your time, soak in the views, and enjoy every moment — and don’t forget to capture it all! Cebu’s mountains are a reminder that sometimes the best experiences are found when you venture a little higher.

  • Our Unforgettable Wedding Trip to the Philippines

Our Unforgettable Wedding Trip to the Philippines

As I celebrate the first year of marriage with my husband, I can’t help but reflect on our unforgettable wedding trip to the Philippines. It was more than just a wedding—it was a celebration of love, culture, and a great way to kick off the start of a beautiful chapter in our lives. From the vibrant city of Cebu to the tranquil beaches of Boracay, our wedding trip was filled with unforgettable moments, laughter, and new memories. In this post, I’ll share all the details of our 6 week trip, including where we went, what we did, and why the Philippines was the perfect destination for our celebration.

    Why We Chose The Philippines

The Philippines was an easy choice for us—it holds such a special place in my heart. With my family being from there, I knew I wanted to share this beautiful country with Jake, who has grown to love it just as much as I do. The Philippines offers so much: stunning beaches, vibrant culture, and the warmth of its people, which made it the perfect setting for our wedding.

The Philippines allowed us to enjoy both luxury and local experiences without the heavy price tag, making it accessible for our friends and family who joined us on this special trip. It was a dream come true to share my culture, favorite spots, and the beauty of the Philippines with those closest to us.

Part 1: Cebu City and Pre-Wedding Activities

I grew up going to The Philippines almost every year for my whole life and Jake had visited several times prior to this trip, but this is the first time most of our wedding party had been to Asia. So we wanted to show them some of our favorite spots around Cebu to give them a introduction into the culture and what the country has to offer.

Our Family Tradition at Ayala Mall

The Sodusta Family tradition for every trip back to the Philippines is to get our Filipino food fix as soon as we get off the plane! We make our first stop at Ayala Mall and head straight to Cafe Laguna for lunch. We also go here to exchange money and buy anything we know we need for the rest of the trip!

The in-laws having Filipino food for the first time!

    Cebu Mountain Tour

As our guests arrived into Cebu, we wanted to take them beyond the usual beach spots and show them the island’s stunning mountain scenery. We set off on a Cebu Mountain Tour, stopping at some of the most picturesque locations along the way. The tour was filled with vibrant flower gardens, unique photo spots, and peaceful retreats tucked away in the hills. The day ended at a cozy hillside restaurant, where we enjoyed wood-fired pizza and drinks while taking in breathtaking views of Cebu city and ocean below.

    A Night on the Town

    Part 2: The Wedding Weekend

Our wedding was set at Shangri-La Mactan Resort & Spa, the perfect tropical escape for our special day. We chose Shangri-La because it’s my favorite resort on the island and my parents had their wedding here many years ago, it holds a very special place in my heart. We arrived a couple of days before the wedding to enjoy the resort and spend time with our guests as they trickled in.

    The Night Before

We spent our days before the wedding lounging by the beach, playing volleyball in the pool, and indulging in some of the incredible food (the buffets here were next level).

The night before the wedding, we gathered for our Welcome Cocktail Party in the garden, a laid-back evening filled with good food, drinks, and our closest family and friends. With twinkling lights overhead and the warm Cebu breeze, it was the perfect way to kick off the the big day!

    The Big Day

The wedding day was an extraordinary experience, starting with a busy morning of makeup and preparations. Surrounded by supportive friends and family, we exchanged vows overlooking the ocean, feeling immense gratitude. The reception featured stunning decor, abundant food, and joyous celebrations typical of Filipino weddings, with lively entertainment and a memorable atmosphere, marking the day as truly unforgettable.

The best part of the day was how effortless everything felt. It was like attending my own wedding instead of planning it. From the moment I woke up, I didn’t have to worry about anything. My bridal party, wedding planner, and vendors ensured every detail was flawless, allowing me to be present.

I was able to enjoy every moment without stress over logistics, which is rare for a wedding! I soaked in the beauty of the ceremony, laughed with guests at the reception, and savored my time with Jake, knowing everything was perfectly arranged. It felt like a dream.

    Part 3: Post-Wedding Adventures

After our beautiful wedding, we couldn’t wait to celebrate as newly weds with our closest friends by showing our wedding party more of the Philippines! Our post-wedding adventures took us through the stunning landscapes of Southern Cebu, filled with thrilling activities and breathtaking views.

    Exploring Southern Cebu

Day 1: Alcoy Our first stop was Alcoy, where we stayed at my family’s beach house. We spent our time enjoying delicious food and refreshing drinks by the pool, and in the evenings, we sang karaoke, creating unforgettable memories in the warm coastal breeze.

Day 2: Oslob and Samboan The morning began early as we headed to Oslob for a once-in-a-lifetime experience: swimming with whale sharks. Seeing these gentle giants up close was both humbling and exhilarating. After our swim, we continued our adventure to Samboan for canyoneering at Aguinid Falls. This multi-level waterfall offered refreshing pools and cascading streams, perfect for a bit of adrenaline and relaxation.

Afterward, we explored more nearby waterfalls, each with its own natural beauty. The lush surroundings and the sound of cascading water made for a serene and picturesque experience.

By evening, we arrived in Badian, ready to rest and prepare for another adventure-packed day.

Day 3: Kawasan Falls, Sardine Run, Sea Turtles, and Mantayupan Falls
We kicked off the day with canyoneering to Kawasan Falls, starting with an exhilarating zip line ride. The adventure included trekking through turquoise pools, cliff jumps, and swimming beneath cascading falls – the perfect adrenaline rush.

After our 6 hour hike through the canyon, we had lunch then headed to Moalboal for the iconic Sardine Run, swimming with massive schools of sardines and spotting sea turtles. This experience showcased Cebu’s stunning marine life.

Finally, we drove to Mantayupan Falls, the tallest waterfall in Cebu at 98 meters. The breathtaking cascade and refreshing mist marked the end of our adventurous day. With full hearts and cameras full of memories, we journeyed back to Cebu City, grateful for our Southern Cebu experiences.

    Fun in Boracay

After our adventure-filled days in Southern Cebu, we flew to Boracay for some well-deserved relaxation. Known for its powdery white sand and crystal-clear waters, it was the perfect place to unwind and celebrate. We soaked in the amazing sunsets each evening, watching the sky burst into shades of orange and pink.

Our days were filled with island hopping, exploring hidden beaches and snorkeling in turquoise waters. At night, we hit the beachfront bars, enjoying the lively music, tropical drinks, and dancing under the stars.

    The Adventure Continues…

Before heading home, we made a quick stop in Tokyo, Japan for a little adventure of our own. We had gone to Tokyo once before, we fell in love instantly and knew we had to go back again. It was a short trip but we made the most of our time exploring the vibrant streets, indulging in delicious food, and soaking in the unique culture. It was the perfect way to wrap up our amazing wedding trip!

    A Trip To Remember

Reflecting on this trip fills me with so much joy. From the magic of our wedding day to the adventures we shared exploring, every moment felt unforgettable. It’s a beautiful reminder of the joy that comes from love, adventure, and togetherness.
